The King's Apostle Church of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland, began in the early 1940's. Its founder was Sister Alice Chambers, who actually began this church by having services in her home. The other early members were Mother Christiana Duppins, Sister Marion Smith and Sister Bea Johns. Sister Chambers wanted God's work to progress, so she purchased the land for the church out of her own meager earnings. The road for these early pioneers wasn't easy, but with in God, they were able to keep the church doors open.
Bishop Joseph Abrams, Elder Theodore Wilburn, Mother Daisy Connor Abrams and Bishop Samuel Murray all did their part in seeing that Sister Chambers' labors were mot in vain. They work laboriously in giving services to the Master.
The membership continues to be small, but they were adament in seeing that Chesapeake Beach had a true holiness church in operation.
In 1958, Bishop Calvin E. Herbert became the pastor of the church. The congregation continued to worship in the original building until 1967. At that time, God inspired Bishop Herbert to build an edifice for the people to worship. Proverbs 29:18 says, "Where there is no vision the people perish." Bishop Herbert had that vision and with this, Christ continued to bless the church in its growth.
In January 1991, Bishop Herbert retired as pastor and passed on the baton to Elder James Larkins. Bishop Herbert remained as the overseer until his death in 1995. Elder James Larkins pastorate continued for eleven years until his death in 2002.
On September 13, 2002, Elder L. Palmer, who literially served as the Presiding Elder for this district, was installed as the pastor of King's Apostle Holiness Church. Under her pastorate, the name of the church was changed to Community Church of Praise, but still remains under the umbrella of King's Apostle Holiness Church, Inc.
Elder Edna L. Palmer, who has recently been elevated to Bishop Edna L. Palmer, remains as pastor.
